Thought as Energy
Energy Wave

Science is taking the mystery and superstition out of energy healing. Since the advent of quantum physics, science has been able to steadily quantify the existence of the human energy field and how it is affected by everything in its environment. Bruce Lipton, a biologist and author of "The Biology of Belief", suggests that we look at ourselves as a community of cells and also presents evidence that the environment has a profound effect on every cell (within and outside of our body). Since everything is energy, that includes our thoughts and our emotions. Science now reveals that cells do respond to thoughts and emotions and through the chemical interactions that take place they cause responses in the brain and the body.

A response that you might be most familiar with is the stress response. It begins with a thought of a stressful experience that we may have had or are having, or even anticipating. These thoughts then produce emotional responses such as anxiety, depression, fear, anger, sadness. Stress produces different chemicals in the body, preparing it for the flight or fight response. These chemicals which, when not being used up immediately by the action of fight or flight, then express themselves physically as the symptoms of stress we are all familiar with: muscular tension, headaches, upset stomach, etc. We are being affected by the very energy of our thoughts. Utilizing this awareness, we can do much toward healing ourselves on the mental and emotional levels by the conscious use of "thought".

Therapy Spotlight
Fire Cupping

Fire Cupping refers to an ancient Chinese practice in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced, so the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping or "sliding cups"). The practice of fire cupping involves removing the oxygen from the cup with the application of alcohol and fire, immediately applying to the skin to create suction.

The benefit of fire cupping from a bodywork standpoint is that it creates a similar result as one would achieve through deep tissue work, detoxifying more deeply and releasing tissues more rapidly in most cases. The cupping is also effective for releasing trigger points, which are painful areas congested with metabolic waste. The cups may also be applied to acupuncture/acupressure points, for treating specific energy meridians along the body.

Cupping combined with bodywork is recommended for the treatment of muscular pain, trigger points, and other musculoskeletal disorders.
